Project Blogger : special guest Laura Tj from See Hear Say

Welcome to Project Blogger! Over the coming weeks I’m talking to some of Australia’s most talented and hottest bloggers on the web right now.

So far, all the bloggers I’ve spoken to are very inspiring with no shortage of hot tips. If you’re thinking about starting a blog, or increasing traffic to your blog, or simply want to know more about the creative people behind the best blogs right now, you might like to sign up for my posts and I’ll keep you in the know with this It’s Geekchic Project.

First up I’m talking to super talented Laura Tj, behind the gorgeous blog See Hear Say:

Mel: What gave you the inspiration to set up your blog?

Laura: Ever since I was introduced to the Internet, browsing became one of my ultimate hobbies. But it wasn’t until I finished uni that I became more and more interested in art, design, illustrations and especially photography. I realised I had piles and piles of links that I’d kept in my computer and I thought it would be such a shame not to share them with others who have the same interests. Blog trending started growing as well at that time, so I decided to set up my own blog as well.

M: What does your blog mean to you?

L: It’s an “online library on my love of art, design, photography, handmade goods, music, traveling, food, anything and everything beautiful”. Everything about this blog, including my readers, the comments and emails I have received, all means a lot to me. It’s kind of fun to have a different circle of friends that I’ve only met online, it feels great to be a part of the community and it makes me happy when I hear people enjoy reading my blog.

M: What do you especially like to post?

L: Most of my posts are about photography. It’s one thing I enjoy doing in my spare time and I’m always keen on finding new photographers with different kinds of styles for an inspiration.

M: Are there certain stories or posts you know will get a great reaction from your readers?

L: Giveaway posts will get a huge amount of comments for sure! Hahaha.. I didn’t really have that many giveaway arranged though, just occasionally.

M: What are your top tips for other bloggers?

L: One thing for sure, is to always be open minded and listen to your readers and their feedback – but ignore any anonymous nonconstructive comments. And don’t forget to give credits if you post other people’s works.

M: What is your top tip for someone just starting out?

L: When you first start writing your blog these thoughts might go through your mind: what if no one visits, what if no one comments or what if people don’t like it? Push away all these negative thoughts and get them out of your head. Your blog is your own space, so write whatever makes you happy or you enjoy writing and from there you’ll develop your own blog style that people can see and appreciate :)

M: What are some of your favourite blogs and why?

L: Last time I checked I have 114 blog feed subscriptions – so I have lots of favourites! But these are my top five in alphabetical order. Why – because I like their taste and the subjects that they posted:

All the mountains

Daydream Lily

Design is mine

Here comes the sun

Oh, hello there

M: How is blogging a creative outlet for you?

L: Blogging plays quite a big role in developing my interests in art, design and photography to begin with. It’s through blogs as well, that I have forced myself to be more out there, doing something fun and creative like – buying my camera, taking photos, joining some creative challenge projects.

M: Has blogging opened up doors for you with new contacts and conversations you may never have otherwise had?

L: Oh yes definitely. Both in real life or just online with other bloggers, all the topics could be as simple as travel or shopping advice, art exhibitions or markets, sharing photography tips, setting up and joining creative challenge projects. I also met some really nice blog friends that I’ve never met in my life! Who knows this whole blogging world might lead somewhere else in the future, there seem to be lots of opportunities.

M: What’s the thing you like most about your blog?

L: Ummm I don’t know, I always like this quote ‘less is more’ and this has been the base of my whole blog concept. I try to keep everything clean and simple and consistent. Other than an inspiration space both for me and my blog readers, I have also described my blog as an online library. So I want it to be easy for people to scan through and find things.

Thanks Laura!! xx
